Statue Restoration Company seeks an experienced artisan who possesses 5 years of experience in granite/marble/plaster art creation, painting, and restoration. We have many interesting projects in our studio for artists who both have experience and a passion to paint and/or repair statues in various mediums.

Projects in the past 6 months include: the patina application on 7-foot bronze horse, the repair of a small marble horse that was broken into 10 pieces; the rebuilding of two fingers on a marble religious statue; repair of chips in two serpentine candlesticks; the rebuilding of missing components on a frog cement statue; the repainting of a plaster bust of St. Leo XIII, repainting and repair of a plaster St. Michael the Archangel statue, and the rebuilding of missing fingers and repainting of a cement Blessed Mother. 

Our current projects include the patina application and repair of a 10-foot bronze statue of Columbus, the repainting of a 5-foot plaster statue of a Wise Man. We have two deer in the shop; one is in for a patina application; the other is a cement deer in for repainting. We are repairing an unusual chalk-ware statue from France of the Blessed Mother that is over 100 years old; after its repair we will repaint the statue to its traditional colors. We are in the midst of repairing a marble statue from the 1850s of a boy and his dog from a known sculptor, as well as evaluating the restoration plan of a 2000-year-old Roman statue that was used as a fountain.

In addition to our repairs, we engage in memorial artwork in the form of etchings and carved granite/marble artwork.

This position is part-time, 24 hours (three days) a week, with a pay range from $25 - $30 per hour with reporting to owner of the company.

As art restoration assistant you will apply your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

· Knowledge of tools relating to granite/marble/plaster preservation and the restoration industry

· Knowledge of preservation treatments as it relates to granite/marble and plaster statuary/monuments

· Mixing and coloring epoxies (or paint)

· Painting techniques as it relates to plaster and cement statues

· Blending of seams and profiles

· Sanding and finishing techniques.

· Professional use of sealants, cleaners, and other products with diverse types of stone materials

The ideal candidate possesses 5 years of experience with the following:

• · Painting techniques commonly used with religious statues
• · Portrait Drawing skills
• · Preservation treatment knowledge
• Knowledge of carving tools to create shapes and profiles is a plus

Successful candidates will have the following:

• · Ability to measure with a ruler
• · Basic maintenance skills to clean up own workspace
• · Ability to work independently, using own judgment
• · Ability to stand, bend and kneel for extended periods of time
• · Ability to work in wet and dusty environments
• · Ability to work in hot/cold environment
• · Ability to work outdoors if project is located on-site and outdoors and cannot be moved to shop (rare)
