Retail Sales Stylist

Claire’s Fashions Inc., the premier bridal and women’s evening wear boutique in Delaware and the greater Philadelphia area, is hiring retail sales stylists. In business for over 30 years, Claire’s is a family owned and award winning retail store that carries Delaware’s largest selection of bridal gowns. In addition, Claire’s also has the best selection of gowns for bridal mothers and grandmothers, as well as the largest inventory of prom and pageant gowns in the state, along with a full selection of fashion accessories to complete the perfect look. We are looking for outgoing and hard-working candidates to join our team.

Job Description

Role: The primary job duty for Claire’s Fashions stylists is to work with the various customers that come to the store and help them find the perfect gown for their event, while providing best in class customer service. As we have a variety of customers that shop at Claire’s, we normally train newly hired staff in one particular area of the business that best matches their background and skill set and then add other customer types once the employee is comfortable with the initial training. There are plenty of opportunities to add other day-to-day job responsibilities and the opportunity to advance into management at the store.

We are hiring both part time and full time (30-35 hours a week) employees and Claire’s can offer some creativity in creating schedules for employees.

Salary: Compensation at Claire’s is hourly, with new positions typically starting between $17 and $21 an hour. In addition, Claire’s offers a monthly sales incentive, based on sales volume and sell through percentage, and also allows customers to add gratuities for staff at the time of purchase. These incentives and gratuities can easily add an additional $5-$10 per hour in overall compensation rate.

Job Location : Claire’s Fashions Inc is a stand alone retail store located in North Wilmington, Delaware at 1312 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington DE 19809. We are not affiliated with the Claires jewelry stores found at local malls.

Tasks and Responsibilities : Staff at Claires have the following responsibilities:

• Work with customers, providing “best-in-class” customer service, while helping the customer find her dream gown that fits her vision for her event.
• Develop a detailed knowledge of the store’s inventory so they are prepared to pull stock that matches the request of the customer.
• Understand how to measure a customer and suggest correct sizes when ordering a gown for a customer.
• Have exceptional teamwork skills - Claire's is not a commission-based sales team and it is the expectation that everyone work together in a friendly and professional manner. You must work with your co-workers to ensure that exceptional customer service is maintained and that all daily tasks in the store are completed
• Make multiple sales to the customer, including accessories such as shoes and jewelry and for bridal customers, bridal specific accessories such as veils.
• Assist in maintaining the appearance of the store, keeping it clean and professional looking at all times.
• As previously mentioned, there are a variety of daily and weekly tasks that must be done to support the operations of the store, including social media maintenance, gown inspection and steaming, order processing, etc. In addition to waiting on customers, employees will be given opportunities to work on these type of tasks.

Work Schedule:  At this time, Claire’s is open Wednesday to Sunday, with the operating hours being 12pm to 8pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10am to 6pm Friday through Sunday. Employees are expected to arrive at the store 30 minutes before we open to the public. During prom season (January to early April), Claire’s also adds a 2pm to 8pm shift on Monday nights. The store is always closed to the public on Tuesdays. While we can be very creative with scheduling, we do require employees to work a set schedule and we require at least one shift on a weekend and one evening shift on Wednesday or Thursday, per week.

Other Benefits: Once new hires have completed a six-month probationary period of employment, they become eligible for various additional benefits at the store. These include a partially employer paid healthcare, dental insurance, vision insurance plans and a 401K plan that includes dollar for dollar matching up to 4%.

Qualifications:  Previous work in retail sales, specifically in bridal or in women’s social occasion fashion is a plus but not required to be considered for these positions. Claire’s Fashions is happy to train candidates who demonstrate the potential to be outstanding salespeople. We are looking for applicants who are outgoing, personable, confident, patient, and know how to be a problem solver. We also look for applicants who have a good sense of fashion and maintain a professional personal appearance. Finally, we look for applicants who are a team players and demonstrate that they have the initiative to complete necessary tasks around the store.
