Job Description

Director of Banquets – Ultra-Luxury Oceanfront Resort | Southern California

A prestigious ultra-luxury Forbes Five-Star resort overlooking the Pacific is seeking an exceptional Director of Banquets to lead one of the West Coast’s most revered banquet and events operations. This design-forward property is a destination for high-net-worth individuals, VIP clientele, and luxury wedding planners , known for offering immersive, bespoke experiences in a breathtaking coastal setting.

The Experience

This is not a volume-based banquet department—it’s a high-touch, high-stakes environment , generating $20M+ in annual banquet and catering revenue across 34,000 sq. ft. of versatile indoor and outdoor space , including:

  • A Grand Ballroom for up to 500 guests
  • Seven distinct meeting spaces accommodating over 1,200 guests total
  • Oceanfront lawns and private dining venues designed for elegant receptions, exclusive dinners, and curated wine experiences

Events range from six-figure destination weddings with custom menus and live entertainment to private chef-led wine dinners and C-suite executive retreats. Creative collaboration is essential, and every touchpoint reflects the elevated expectations of a Forbes Five-Star resort with international acclaim .

Culinary Partnership

The Banquets department works closely with a world-class culinary team led by a Master French Chef —renowned for his artistry and commitment to local sourcing, seasonal ingredients, and exceptional technique. Customized menus, handcrafted wedding cakes, thoughtful wine pairings, and immersive food experiences are standard. Creative cuisine that inspires and delights is an essential part of the experience here.

Your Team

You’ll lead a dynamic and structured banquet team, including:

  • Assistant Director of Banquets
  • Banquet Manager
  • 5 Captains
  • 15 Full-Time Servers
  • 20–30 On-Call Servers and Housemen

Ideal Profile

We’re seeking a leader with a refined sense of service and precision , who thrives in luxury settings and understands the nuanced needs of discerning guests:

  • Proven experience overseeing complex, high-revenue banquet operations at ultra-luxury hotels, resorts, or private clubs
  • Client-facing presence with the ability to engage with wedding planners, corporate hosts, and VIP guests with poise and discretion
  • Collaborative mindset , working seamlessly with Culinary, Sales, Event Planning, and Front-of-House teams
  • Detail-oriented in forecasting, cost control, labor management, and event execution
  • Passion for curating memorable, bespoke experiences , not just managing logistics
  • Multiple time Director of Banquets within a luxury resort setting.

The Culture

Here, leadership means empowering your team to exceed expectations , and showing up with intention, consistency, and care . You’ll work within a culture that prioritizes craftsmanship, creativity, and collaboration —where every detail matters and where service is personal, not procedural. The resort’s leadership believes great hospitality begins with those who deliver it.

Accolades & Recognition

This iconic resort continues to receive top honors, including:

  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Award (multiple consecutive years)
  • U.S. News & World Report – Ranked among the Top 3 Resorts in California
  • Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its acclaimed culinary program

Position Highlights

  • $125,000–$140,000 base salary + performance bonus
  • Relocation assistance
  • Robust benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, paid time off, wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, and more
  • Opportunity to join an award-winning team within one of the country’s most distinguished resort environments
